Sophie K. (Lepianka) Manchester, 93, of Westport, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Philip Manchester, Jr.
Born in Lowell, raised in Franklin, NH, daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Witalisz) Lepianka, she had resided in Westport for over 60 years. She attended secretarial school in Concord, NH. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary for both the Town of Westport’s Highway Department and Pierce Painting of Fall River. Mrs. Manchester had also worked as a telephone operator in Little Compton. A veteran of WWII, she served her country in the United States Navy. Mrs. Manchester enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her 2 daughters: Martha Manchester of Westport and Kathy A. Tansey and her husband Russell of Dartmouth; her sister: Wanda Jordan of Northfield, NH; 2 grandchildren: Shannon and Meagan Tansey; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Dr. Tadeusz Lepianka and Alfreda Ketchum.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
