Albert T. Szynal, 85, of New Bedford died May 7, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Winifred C. (Hayes) Szynal.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Nellie (Chmiel) Szynal, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Szynal was formerly employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in New Bedford until his retirement. Prior to that, he had been employed as a supervisor at Aerovox for several years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Army of Occupation of Japan Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Szynal was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Thomas Szynal and Christopher Szynal, both of New Bedford, and Timothy Szynal of Ft. Myers, FL; 3 daughters, Carol Cote, and her husband Paul, of Wareham, and Sheila Kirby, and her husband Larry, and Ann Szynal, all of New Bedford; a brother, Edward Szynal of New Bedford; a sister Lillian Cambra, of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Joan Wilmot and brother of the late Henry Szynal.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, May 14th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday, May 13th from 4-8 PM.
Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
