Stephen S. Murray of Lexington, Massachusetts, died on August 10th, 2015 at the age of 70. He leaves behind his beloved wife Kathryn, his sisters Gail, Sandra, and Rita, his sons Jeffrey, Micah, and Eric, and daughters-in-law Carrie, Naomi, and Sarah, as well as by granddaughters Danielle, Talia, and Seraphine. Dr. Murray was born in 1944 in New York City, NY. He received a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a doctorate from the California Institute of Technology. He worked for the majority of his career at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, MA and had recently retired from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He leaves behind innumerable colleagues and friends. He was world-renown for his lifelong contributions to high-resolution X-ray imaging and for the development of NASA’s Astrophysics Data System that revolutionized the way astronomers conduct their research. Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 13th, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA.
