FRAMINGHAM: Barbara E. (Xiarhos) Campbell, 91, died peacefully on August 7, 2015, following a period of declining health.
She was born in Boston on March 15, 1924, the daughter of Aristotelis and Margaret (Harrington) Xiarhos.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Clifford J. Ross of Manchester, N.H., and three children: Margaret Hill of Wayland; John Campbell of Tampa, Fla.; and Christopher Campbell of Alexandria, Va. She also leaves six grandchildren—Alexander Hill of Amesbury; Elizabeth Petrell of Plymouth; Katherine Kennedy of Kettering, Oh.; and Robert, Joseph, and Andrew Campbell of Fredericksburg, Va.—and four great-grandchildren. Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband, John, and by her son James, formerly of Harwich.
Barbara was a resident of Wellesley for nearly 50 years, having spent her formative years in Boston (Brighton) and her early adult years in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Boston Girls' Latin School and Emmanuel College (Boston), Barbara was an analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., taught foreign languages in Vermont and Massachusetts, and completed her career as a translator. She enjoyed travel, classical music, and her family.
Family and friends may gather at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland, on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 9:00 am, followed by Barbara's Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Zepherin's Church, 99 Main St. (Rte. 27), Wayland.
Inurnment will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Harwich at a later date.
