New Bedford – Joseph S. Macedo, 85, of New Bedford passed away at home on August 5, 2015. He was husband of the late Ceclia (Souza) Macedo.
Mr. Macedo was born in St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Manuel and Rose (Souza) Macedo, and lived most of his life in New Bedford. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea. He was employed as a construction foreman by the City of New Bedford until his retirement. He was a kind and gentle man who always had a smile on his face and was always willing to help those in need. Perpetually a happy man, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; fishing; baseball; walking his dog Zoey; and working in his garden.
Survivors include his daughter: Nancy Amaral of Vero Beach, FL; his sisters: Mary Aguiar and Hilda Benfeito, both of New Bedford; his grandchildren: Corey and Rachel Amaral, both of Florida; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Manuel Macedo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
