Obituary

Schaubert, Stephen J. of Weston, Massachusetts died unexpectedly at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona on August 3, 2015 at the age of 69. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Edgar and Janetta Schaubert and raised in St. Louis, Missouri where he attended St. Louis Country Day School. Steve is survived by his wife of 42 years, Eileen Doocy Schaubert and their two daughters Amy Schaubert Brown and her husband Bobby and Suzanne Schaubert Thornfeldt and her husband Brian. He was loving grandfather to Liam and Clara Thornfeldt.

Steve graduated summa cum laude from Yale University in 1968 with B.S. in engineering, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi. Following graduation, he served in the Air Force, earned an M.S. in industrial engineering from Northeastern University, and an MBA in 1974 from Harvard Business School as a Baker Scholar. His business career began at Baxter International and included three years working for them in England. He joined Bain & Company in 1979, was elected a partner in 1980, and continued there for thirty-five years. At Bain, Steve served as a leader in the firm’s Performance Improvement practice, Private Equity Practice, and Industrial Practice and as the firm’s Chief Investment Officer. He was the former head of Bain’s Boston Office and their North American business. He was in charge of Bain’s internal partner training program where he excelled as a teacher and coach for many years, helping to advance the careers of hundreds of Bain partners. Steve was the author of numerous articles and a successful book, “The Breakthrough Imperative – How the Best Managers Get Outstanding Results”. Steve led many of Bain’s most important client relationships and advised numerous CEOs and Boards of Directors.

Steve will be remembered for his bright and inquiring mind, his wonderful sense of humor and especially his ability to make long-lasting and meaningful connections with everyone he met.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street (Rt.16), Wellesley, on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm.
A private service will be held. Friends are invited to a Reception at the Westin Waltham Hotel on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Stephen J. Schaubert Lung Cancer Research Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer institute or the Peter Stone, MD Laboratory Fund at www.bwhgiving.org/schaubert.
