ALBERT E. SMITH

LEDYARD: Albert Enos “Big Daddy” Smith, 50, of Ledyard died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. He is survived by his fiancée, Pamela Meuse of Ledyard.

Albert was born on November 10, 1964 in Westerly, RI the son of Albert and Florence (Main) Smith. He grew up in Groton and attended Fitch Senior High School. He worked as an Equipment Operator for the Town of Groton for 29 years. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Everybody who knew Al was familiar with his “Boom-boom” room which was filled with taxidermy specimens and other collectibles. “Big Al” was also a nickname, but to quote Officer Varone, a better name would have been “Teddy Bear Al.” He was well loved in the community and will be sadly missed by many.

In addition to his fiancée, he is survived by his step-children Zachariah, Maritza, and Malachi Meuse, all of Ledyard, whom he always said were his own. He is also survived by his siblings, Lois Caswell of North Stonington, Larry Smith of Groton, Kathy Rodriguez and Tammy Green both of New London.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his stepfather, Wallace Tetlow and his brother Alfred Kaminsky.

His family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, August 10, from 5 to 7pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 11, at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
