CHICOPEE – Ronald W. “Ron” Constant, 67, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and friends. He was born in Springfield on April 30, 1948, a beloved son of the late Leo and Bella (Longpre) Constant. He was raised on High Street in Chicopee Falls and graduated from the former Precious Blood High School in Holyoke. He later lived for many years on Broadway Street in Chicopee Falls before moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 2000. Ron was last employed for 18 years at Kamatics in Bloomfield, Connecticut and retired in 2007. He previously worked at Smith and Wesson in Springfield and the former Albany International Company in Enfield, CT. Ron was active at the Chicopee Senior Center, was a member of several bowling leagues and bowled for many years at the former AMF Lanes at the Springfield Plaza. Most of all, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother who showered his family with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. Active in his faith, he was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Marguerite A. “Peggy” (Fournier) Constant. They were married on May 24, 1969 at Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 46 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Roger M. Constant of Chicopee, Michelle A. McAlhaney of Baldwinsville, NY, and Russell R. Constant and Mellissa M. Williams and her husband, Scott, all of Chicopee; his seven cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Christian Constant, Hunter, Connor and Aidan McAlhaney and Travis, Scott Jr. and Austin Williams; his dear brother, Robert Constant and his wife, Judith, of Westfield; his dear sister, Jeannine Santoro and her husband, Richard, of Suffield, CT; his dear sister-in-law of the Fournier family, Suzanne “Sue” Fournier and her husband, Christopher Martin, of Berwyn, IL; his lifelong friends, Stephen and Suzanne “Sue” Stefancik and their family of Holyoke; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Constant and Fournier families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear sister and brother-in-law, Lucille Groleau and her husband, Ronald; and his dear father-in-law and mother-in-law, Romeo J. Fournier who was Called Home on October 31, 2007 and Jeanne (Beaudry) Fournier who was Called Home on July 26, 2011. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, August 11, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (the funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
