Helen M. Croteau, age 89, passed away on July 31, 2015at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs. Helen was born and raised in Chicopee on Feb 21, 1926 to the late Robert and Jesse (McGregor) Kennedy. Helen worked at the Springfield Armory during WWII, and also as a Springfield School District crossing guard for many years at the corner of Spruce and Central Street. In her younger years she kept active and enjoyed many activities including spending time at the ocean, motorcycle and plane rides with her late husband Paul. Helen was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. Despite many health issues in recent years she always maintained her sense of humor. Helen was always grateful to the friends and relatives that were able to visit with her and help as needed. Her daughter-in-law Carol who was very helpful, caring and helped her laugh as well as her granddaughter Rebecca and Cindy (Lindsey) Kelly. She leaves two sons Paul R. Croteau of Enfield and Donald B. Croteau and his wife carol of Chicopee; two grandchildren Robert Croteau and his wife Traci of Agawam and Rebecca Croteau; seven great grandchildren Caleigh, Sarena and Andrew Croteau, Zachary and Zander Munson and Bradley and Ian Gallacher as well as a very close friend Cruz (Cookie) M. Rivera. A Funeral Service will be held directly at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Thurs Aug 6, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Calling Hours will be held on Wed Aug 5, 2015 from 4 to 7 PM at the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee, MA. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.
