DARTMOUTH - Phyllis (Gardiner) Besse, 73, of Heritage of Dartmouth, formerly of New Bedford, died May 4, 2005. She was the wife of Charles R. Besse.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Beatrice (Hyde) Gardiner.
She graduated from New Bedford High School and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in New Bedford.
She was a secretary at First National Bank, which later became Shawmut Bank.
Mrs. Besse was a member of the Mothers Club of her church. She was an avid reader and talented needleworker.
Survivors include her widower, four sons, David R. Besse and his wife, Robin of Marion, Donald R. Besse and his wife, Karen, James N. Besse and his wife, Susan, and William A. Besse and his wife, Judith all of New Bedford; two brothers, William H. Gardiner and Donald W. Gardiner, both of Dartmouth; eight grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2005, in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St. New Bedford, Ma.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
