Obituary

John J. Swaynos, Sr., 60, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

A Rosary Service will be held, Saturday evening at 7:00 at Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dan O’Connell officiating. Visitation will follow until 9:00 PM. Visitation in Windber, PA will be Monday from 7-9 PM at the Kisiel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber, PA with the Rev. Leonard E. Voytek officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cantius Cemetery, Windber, PA.

Mr. Swaynos was born May 31, 1944, in Windber, Pennsylvania, to the late James Joseph and Mary Ann Stopko Swaynos. He moved here twenty-five years ago from Windber, PA, to help develop Fitzgerald Railcar Services, where he worked as the Production Manager. He was a former police officer in Windber, PA, a former employee of the Steel Mill in Johnstown, PA, and a former manager of Berwin Railcar, Inc. in Windber, PA. Mr. Swaynos was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Swaynos is survived by his wife: Joyce Reed Swaynos of Fitzgerald; two sons and daughters-in-law: John James and Sondra Swaynos, Jr. and Jamie Ray and Melissa Swaynos, all of Fitzgerald; eight grandchildren: Leigh Mikus, Spec. Christopher Taylor, Janicea Spaventa, John James Swaynos III, Zack Swaynos, Jimmy Wiggins, Jamie Ray Swaynos, Jr., and Madison Swaynos; two great-grandchildren: Taylor Burch and Joseph Spaventa, Jr.; one brother: Joseph Swaynos of Windber, PA; and two sisters: Josephine Brutz of Windber, PA and Anna Mary Stofan of Detroit, MI. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
