Michael DePierre, 85, of Mattapoisett died Monday May 2, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Mildred (Brown) DePierre; they had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2005.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Donato and Rose (Schiro) DiPierro, he had lived in New Bedford and Fairhaven before moving to Mattapoisett. He had also wintered in Naples, Florida.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
Mr. DePierre was formerly employed as a supervisor with Commonwealth Gas Company until his retirement.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the 13th Marines, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater participating in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
He was a member of the Reservation Golf Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Naples.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael F. DePierre, and his wife Nadine, of Niskayuna, New York; and three grandchildren, James, Brian, and Brendan.
He was the brother of the late Angelo DiPierro and John DiPierro.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett Tuesday May 10, 2005 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday May 9, 2005 from 4-8 PM. Burial with military honors will be in Cushing Cemetery.
