LaVeeda Marjorie Foster, age 55, of Mashantucket, died on May 5th, at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness.
She was born on April 8, 1947 to Arline Phelmetta and William Weeks Canton. She was raised in New Rochelle, NY by the late Elder Fetson “Daddy” Leak and “Momma” Leak.. LaVeeda was a graduate of Westchester Business Institute of White Plains, NY.
She resided in Port Chester, NY where she made her home for 22 years and worked for Russo Pontiac as an accountant. She then accepted a position with Simmonds Precision of Tarrytown, NY where she was an executive secretary to the president. LaVeeda then went on to Hercules Aerospace where she was instrumental as a computer chip specialist.
In 1997 LaVeeda moved to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Reservation to join her family and worked as an executive secretary to Councilman Michael Thomas and later for Councilman Gary Carter whom she held in high regard. A hardworker, she enjoyed every aspect of her job and touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with.
She is survived by two loving daughters, Donna Maria Foster “Firestar” and Diane Lilieth Foster “Lioness”, her grandchildren, Shatara LaVeeda Stevens “Sparrow-Fly-Free”, Morningstar Arline Fiqueroa, Toie Marie Tolbert “Sunflower”, Frank Ishod Kelly “Sharpeye”, Tabasia LaDawn Williams, a greatgrandchild, Joseph Silvercloud Johnson. She also leaves her special aunt Eunice, her cousins, Montess Charles Rosalind Charles and Owen Charles, her brother Herbert Boyd and her sister, Arline Boyd.Laveeda also leaves 2 nephews, Rev. James Hollis and Robert Hollis “champ”. She also shared many special times with Toni “Seeing Hawk” Parker Johnson, her cousin and best friend, as well as her son William F. Deerson Johnson III “Lil’ Bill”. She also leaves 2 goddaughters, Kathy and Kecia Wilson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her extended tribal family.
He family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 10am until 11:45am. A service will follow at 12noon at the funeral home and burial will be at the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Burial Ground.
All flowers must be delivered to the funeral home by 8am on Wednesday to ensure placement before the families early arrival.
