Mrs. Gladys (Carrion) Martinez, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 30 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Rafael Martinez, Sr. She was born 76 years ago in Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Felix Carrion and Consuelo DeGracia. She was educated in New York, having immigrated to the United States in the 1950’s, and had been a Taunton resident for the past 5 years. Prior to her retirement, Gladys had been employed in the Housekeeping Department of Children’s Hospital in New Jersey for many years. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
She leaves: 1 daughter: Leticia Aponte of Taunton; 1 brother: Felix Carrion of Puerto Rico; 2 sisters: Carmen G. Carrion of Puerto Rico and Maria Hernandez of Taunton; 5 grandchildren: Rafael Martinez, III, Shantel Martinez, Jessica Martinez, Erica Aponte and Veronica Aponte; 7 great grandchildren: Elias J. Martinez, Joeniya Davis, Rebekah Aguilar, Leah Ramirez, Jairelys A. Fuentes, Lissette Silvera and Vivienne Ramirez; 2 nephews: Felix Hernandez and David Rodriguez and 2 nieces. Gladys was also the mother of the late Rafael Martinez, Jr. of Taunton.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Monday, August 3 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
