Robert C. Salstead Jr. died on July 26, 2015 with his loving wife by his side. He was born on Sept 8, 1951 in Hartford CT to the late Robert (Sr.) and Doris (Coulson) Salstead and was the eldest of their 3 children. In his youth, Bob was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was in the local ski club. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 where he served in the 198th Americal Division. Even today, years after his discharge, Bob is known as "Grasshopper" by his loving brothers from the unit. He helped organize several reunions so this close knit Army family could reminisce and reconnect. On June 6th, 1981, he married Diane Gendron at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Chicopee, MA. Robert worked many years in the HVAC industry before being declared a 100% disabled veteran. He enjoyed camping with friends and family over the past few decades. His last 2 excursions to visit with family were especially enjoyable. He leaves his devoted wife of 34 years, Diane (Gendron) Salstead, son Erik Salstead, and son Stephen Salstead and his wife Gianna. Bob leaves a sister Karen Bankston and husband Dan, a sister Lynn Malito, several nieces and nephews, and his Mother-in-Law Madeleine Gendron. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231 or the Alzheimer's Association 480 Pleasant St, Watertown, MA 02472.
