– Zoel J. Boucher, 90, formerly of Bernon St. Woonsocket died Sunday July 26th at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. He was the loving husband of the late Therese (Robin) Boucher.
Born in Harrisville he was a son of the late Medric and Roseanna (Lagace) Boucher.
Mr. Boucher served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. He was with Company A of the 645th Tank Destroyer Battalion and achieved the rank of Corporal. He participated in the Rome-Anzio, Northern France, Southern France, Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns and was awarded the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct and Victory Medal and the Purple Heart
He was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Woonsocket office for over 25 years until retiring.
Zoel remained active in veteran organizations and served as the Past Commander of the Alphonse Yelle Post 9 American Legion in Manville, the Manville DAV, AMVETS Post 7 and the Post 62 American Legion. He was a longtime member of Precious Blood Parish, an avid stamp collector and enjoyed puzzles and walking around the area.
He is survived by a brother Eugene Boucher of Milford and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was the brother of the late Medric Jr, Conrad, Leo, Roland, and Anthony Boucher, Beatrice Theroux, Ella St. Laurent and Theresa Joanis.
His funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours are Thursday (TODAY) from 4-7 pm.
