Joseph M. Petros
...active in Tewksbury youth sports; 73
TEWKSBURY - Joseph M. Petros, age 73, a well known member of Tewksbury’s youth sports
organizations, died Sunday morning, May 1, at his Tewksbury home, after a three year battle with
cancer. He was the husband of Beverly A. (Niland) Petros, with whom he had celebrated a 51st
wedding anniversary this past January 2nd.
He was born in Stoughton, Aug. 7, 1931, a son of the late Joseph and Casemere (Wilecow)
Petroszkiewicz. He was raised in Stoughton and Brockton, and graduated Brockton High
School.
He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and served aboard the aircraft carrier,
USS Wright. Upon discharge from the Navy, he moved to Tewksbury, where he had lived since
1954.
He retired as the operations manager for Lake Systems in Newton, and later worked as a
custodian for the Tewksbury School Department, at the Heath Brook School.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury, where he had served as a
Eucharistic Minister, and as a CCD teacher.
He was active in Tewksbury youth sports as a former coach for the Pop Warner Football League,
and was a co-founder and past president of the Redmen Booster’s Club.
He was also a former Cub Scout Leader.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law. Joseph M. Petros Jr. and his
wife Joan (Whitehouse) of Tewksbury, David M. Petros and his wife Ellen (McHarg) of
Winchendon, Mark E. Petros and his wife Marybeth (Spencer) of Lowell, Jay S. Petros and his wife
Patricia (Horgan) of Raymond, NH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise M. Hansford and her
husband Michael of Pepperell, Christine A. Connolly and her husband Adam of Belmont;
seventeen grandchildren, Matthew, Brad, Laura & Kaitlin Petros, Jeremy and Meghan Hansford,
Gregory, Jonathan, James and Rebecca Petros, Frank and Susan Criscitello, Jay Petros Jr.,
Jennifer and Michael Petros, Amanda and Austin Connolly; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Alfred and Anthony Pietroszkiewicz, Florence Skibinski; and was
awaiting the birth of his first great grandchild, due to be born on May 1.

His Funeral
Mass was held Wednesday, May 4, in St. William’s Church,
Tewksbury. Burial was in St.
Mary’s Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Saints Memorial Medical
Center, Cancer Center, 1 Hospital Dr., Lowell, MA 01852 or the charity of donor’s Choice will
be appreciated.
