Pauline (Sylvestre) Cote, 88, died on Thursday, July 16th, after a period of failing health. Gregarious and outgoing, and a lifelong resident of Woonsocket, she seemed to meet friends wherever in the city she went. She was a daughter of the late J. Donat and Alida (Cote) Sylvestre.
Pauline was married to the love of her life, the late Arsene P. Cote DDS, for 27 years, and worked as a hygienist in his dental practice for more than two decades. She was a graduate of the Eastman School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Rochester, N.Y., which she attended at age 16 after graduating from St. Clare High School.
She was the loving mother of Philippe S. Cote MD (and his wife Ellen Kooima) of Narragansett, Claude A. Cote (and his wife Linda Laliberte) of Lincoln, Jerome A Cote of Woonsocket, Andre P Cote (and his wife Bernadette) of Bahrain, Pierre J Cote (and Laura Barone) of Upton MA, and Gilbert F Cote (and his wife Jill) of Bolton MA.
She also leaves ten grandchildren: Christopher (and his wife Druanne) of Montana, Danielle (and her fiancé Manga Shuman) of Lincoln, Alexandre of Upton, Elizabeth of Boston, Aislinn and Manon of Bahrain, Marc and Madeleine of Narragansett, and Luc and Jocelyn of Bolton. She also will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially those at the Ballou Home where she thrived for the last two and a half years.
Pauline was strong-willed and deeply caring. She lived her beliefs and invested in her family, her city, and the people around her. She embraced her French-Canadian heritage and language all her life, and was a strong supporter of the Museum of Work and Culture.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.in St. Joseph’s Church, 1200 Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory to the Museum of Work and Culture, 42 South Main St., Woonsocket RI 02895 would be appreciated.
