GLOUCESTER: Lorraine McEachern, 81, "the matriarch of McEachern Place" in Gloucester, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 16, 2015. She was the wife of the late John H. McEachern who died in 1987.
Born in Stoneham on October 25, 1933, she was the daughter of Mary (O’Keefe) Nickel and her husband, Arthur. She was an active volunteer in local and federal politics, including President Obama’s presidential election campaigns. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gloucester Fraternity Club.
Lorraine was a supervisor at Rule Industries in Gloucester for many years before her retirement. She had also once worked at LePages in Gloucester, was a personal shopper at Best & Company in Brookline and modelled for John Robert Powers in Boston for several years.
She is survived by her daughter, Alison A. Cahill and her husband, Gary of Beverly; her son, John H. McEachern, Jr. and his wife, Valerie of Ottawa, Canada; her grandson, Noah McEachern, who brought her much joy and happiness along with his beautiful smile and colorful artwork; her sister, Barbara Cullen of Zachary, LA; several nieces and nephews: Marla (Cullen) Rapini, whom she loved dearly and her husband Albert of West Haven, CT; Peter Cullen and his wife, Kelly of Lynn; Tim Cullen and his wife, Karen of Braintree; Martha McCarthy and her husband, Kevin of New Port Richey, FL; Marcie Comeau and her husband, Bob of Peach Tree, GA; and Paul Cullen and his wife, Celeste of Port Allen, LA; and longtime friends, William and Shirley Edmonds of Gloucester and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers at Springhouse and Sherrill House of Jamaica Plain as well as a very special thank you to Dan Turcich.
In keeping with her wishes, Lorraine’s funeral service was privately held on Saturday at Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation, One Bulfinch Place, 2nd Fl., Boston, MA 02114.
