Obituary

SLATTERY, Robert Basil, Jr. 92, died July 17, 2015. Beloved husband of Abigail (Pitts) Slattery with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Long time resident of Weston and more recently Wayland. WWII Veteran serving in the South Pacific, a communications officer on the USS Thomas Jefferson. He was on board when his ship delivered troops to the battle of Okinawa. He also was part of the delegation that was sent to Sasebo, Nagasaki to accept the keys of the city at the time of the Japanese surrender. He had great respect and fond memories of the education he received at Boston Latin School. He was inducted into the Boston Latin School Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of the many varsity teams he played on while in high school. Class of 1946 at Harvard College, he was awarded the Major "H" for Harvard Varsity Baseball. He also played baseball for a Navy team and had a short career as a semi-pro. A leather merchant, he operated Slattery Brothers, Inc. with his brother John. The family owned business was established in 1920 by his father and uncle. Longtime member and former President of Woodland Golf Club, Auburndale, MA, he served many years on the club's Green's Committee on which he played a key role in the redesign and improvements of the course. He is survived by his wife Abigail, sons Robert and Sam, daughters Amy and Eve, grandchildren Emily, Robert, Camille and Seamus, and his brother John.

Funeral Mass in St. Julia Church, 374 Boston Post Rd., WESTON, Saturday, July 25 at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Reception at St Julia's Parish Hall immediately following the Mass.
