New Bedford - Elsie (Furtado) Sylvia, 90, died Friday, April 29, 2005, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late John R. Sylvia and the late Charles Almeida. Mrs. Sylvia was the mother of Marjorie Izdebski, wife of Frank Izdebski of New Bedford and stepmother of John Sylvia, husband of Claire Sylvia also of New Bedford. She was the grandmother of Lorri Chouquette, Wayne and Frank Izdebski, and David and Richard Sylvia. Mrs. Sylvia was the sister of Vivian O’Brien of S. Dartmouth and Evelyn Frias of Oakdale, CA., She had 7 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Sylvia was the mother of the late Carlos Almeida and grandmother of the late Karla Akey.
Mrs. Sylvia was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Jose L. and Maria Conceicao Furtado.
Her funeral will be Tuesday, May 3, 2005, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9 A.M. with a Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church, on County St., New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Monday, May 2, 2005 from 5 - 8 P.M. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery.
