Louise Wingate, 81, of the Lax Community in Irwin County, Georgia died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home, Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, April 28, 2005 at the Ocilla Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Couey and Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Lax Holiness Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-9 PM on Thursday at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Wingate was born October 28, 1923 in Berrien County, Georgia, to the late William Aaron and Roxie Wycoff Moore. She lived in the community all of her life. Mrs. Wingate was former president and bookkeeper for William Wingate Farms, former manager for the Lax Exchange and former assistant of the Media Center at the Irwin County High School. She was the church clerk and pianist for twenty-five years at the Lax Baptist Church and was a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church. Mrs. Wingate was a member of the Ocilla Garden Club and the Order Of The Eastern Star.
Mrs. Wingate is survived by her children and their spouses: Carole and Dennis Keefe of East Lansing, MI, William O. “Billy” and Jo Wingate, III of the Lax Community, Linda and Danny Howell of Ocilla and Roxy and Bob Roland of Tulsa, OK; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Ottis Wingate, Jr. and a brother, Roy Moore.
