VIRGINIA (MOORE) FISHER, 82, beloved wife of noted Pediatric Surgeon.
Virginia (Moore) Fisher, 82, of Hingham, MA, died peacefully at home, April 24, 2005 surrounded by her loving family. Jini was the cherished wife of well-known Boston Pediatric Surgeon, Dr. John Herbert Fisher. She was a gifted floral designer, an avocation she pursued throughout her life.
She was the only child of Olive (Chapin) and William Moore, raised at her grandparents' home in Springfield, MA, which her grandfather built. She shared a passion for art and creativity with her mother, who was her closest friend and confidant. She shared her father's love for sports, especially golf. She was a talented golfer in high school and won several golf tournaments.
She graduated from Simmons college, Prince School of Retailing in 1945. While attending Simmons, she met her beloved husband, who was attending Harvard Medical School. She was first employed at Jordan Marsh as a Junior Executive in the Advertising Department.
She was always creative and an entrepreneur, starting a fabric retail business, creating floral arrangements for weddings and retail, and creating personalized teddy bears. Jini was a gifted floral designer and a national flower arranging judge, and won the Tricolor Award which is the highest floral design award at the New England Flower Show. She started a business call Blossoms, which imported silk flowers from China that she designed and arranged.
Jini and Herb traveled throughout the world as a result of Herb's international pediatric surgical career. They traveled to eastern and western Europe, Asia, South America, and the Mediterranean. During his tenure as the Chief Pediatric Surgeon at New England Medical Center and Professor of Pediatric Surgery at Tufts Medical School, Jini supported Herb though her presidency of the Tufts Medical Faculty Wives Organization. She later supported Herb's career when she became office manager of his practice at the Children's Hospital.
She is survived by her loving husband, Herb, four adoring children: Carol Curran and her husband Al of Gorham, Maine, Martha Weaver and her husband Grant of Preston, Connecticut, Beth Ann Fisher of Hingham, and John Brewster Fisher of Boxford, Massachusetts.; and eight wonderful grandchildren: Rachelle, Sally, and Nilaya Curran; Sarah Kate and Caleb Weaver; and Benjamin, Adam, and Jonathan Fisher.
