Ross Manocchia, 77, of Barnes Street, Greenville, died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Roger Williams Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia (Egan) Manocchia. They had been married for 52 years.
Born in South Grafton, N.S.W. Australia, he was the son of the Anthony and Edith (Wood) Manocchia. He had lived in Greenville for the past 48 years.
He was the father of Christopher Manocchia and his wife, Cynthia, Julie Gabel and her husband, William and Andrea Manocchia and grandfather of Caroline, Robert and James Manocchia, Colin and Luke Gabel and Jillian and Joel Baxter. He is also survived by many cousins in Australia as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins here in the United States.
He was an Air Force Veteran. He had worked at J.V. Egan, Inc. and Leddy Electric.
He was a volunteer member of the Smithfield Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He was a CPR instructor, an active member of the former Smithfield Raiders organization and a charter member and officer of the Smithfield Figure Skating Club. He was a professional Santa Claus, an avid fisherman spending many hours on Narragansett Bay in his boat, Andiamo. He was an accomplished woodworker and “jack of all trades”.
He was a former scoutmaster for St. Philip’s Cub Scout Pack #3 and a 4H Fire Safety team assistant leader.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Visitation Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to The Tomorrow Fund or Hasbro Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project
