Richard "Dickie" Sylvia, 73, of New Bedford died July 14, 2015 at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness.
He was the husband of Pauline A. (Lague) Sylvia.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Espinola) Sylvia, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Sylvia was formerly employed as a custodian at the Hannigan School and Sea Lab for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed sports his whole life, coaching youth hockey and softball, refereeing softball, working many years for the New Bedford Recreation Department and playing tennis and skiing.
Mr. Sylvia enjoyed going to the Y.M.C.A.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Michael Semiao and his wife Rita of North Andover, MA and Richard C. Sylvia of New Bedford; a daughter, Alison Sylvia Costa and her husband Paul of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Rhiley, Mia, Ella and Ronan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Christy Semiao.
His visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 17th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
