Allenstown-----Dora Blanche (Brasley) Martel, 90, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home after a long illness. Dora was attended to by her family and friends in her home until recently. She was cared for these last few months at the nursing home.
Dora was born on May 27, 1925 in Suncook the daughter of Philip and Blanche (Gagnon) Brasley. She had resided in Allenstown most of her life. Dora has worked as a millworker, waitress and in child care.
Dora was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and was a member of the St. Anne Society and the Rose Bush.
Dora enjoyed a very active life up until her illness. She loved to drive, travel especially to Aruba, knitting, playing bingo, an avid Red Sox and most of all caring for children who remember her for her gentleness into their adult lives.
Dora is survived by four daughters; R. Susan Jacobs, and her husband Charles, of Laconia and their children, Emily Gans and CJ Jacobs; Louise Walker, and her husband Fred of Allenstown and their children, Jeffrey Brousseau, Denise Fraizer and Katie Walker; Diane Converse, of Hooksett and her children, Charles Converse IV and Kelly Judge; Rena Lavin, and her husband Gary of Barre, Vt. and their children, Sara Lavin, Karen Skoda and Natalie Soffin; two stepsons, Richard Martel and James Martel; sixteen great grandchildren, three sisters, Rita Hamel, of Allenstown , Constance Towle, of Barnstead and Helen Cote, of Florida; a brother Roland Brasley, of Suncook and several nephews, nieces and cousins. In addition to her parents, Dora was predeceased by her husbands, Ernest Martel, Fernand Bouchard and Fay “Pat” Keyes and by six brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 9:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 10 School Street, Suncook , NH.
Burial will follow the Mass in the family plot in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
For those who wish, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
