Obituary

Robert Luongo, an information technology specialist and retired postal worker died Saturday at his Medford home after a brief illness. He was 57.


Robert was born in the North End of Boston and spent his early years there. As a boy he participated in the renowned caddy camp program, during the summers. He has been a Medford resident for over 45 years. A US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Robert received the Bronze Star for his service in the war. For 30 years he worked with the US Postal Service. After his retirement he embarked on a new career by beginning G and L Enterprises, a computer and information technology firm.


He was the beloved husband of Susan (Mitchell) Luongo. He was a devoted father to Robert Luongo, Jr. and his wife Stacy of Montana, Anthony Luongo and his wife Michelle of Saugus, Juliann Luongo and her fiancee Anson of Malden. He was a loving grandfather to Vanessa, Katie and Justin. He was the cherished son of Marie (Albano) and the late Ernest Luongo and a dear brother of Ernest Luongo, Jr. of Medford.


Friends and family may visit Tuesday from 4 - 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Raphael Church, Medford, Wednesday, at 9 AM with the Rev. Kevin G. Toomey, presiding. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
