Benedetto “Benny” Maccarone, age 89 of Lawrence passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2015 at his residence. Benny was born in Lawrence on October 13, 1925 to Pasquale and Clara Maccarone. Mr. Maccarone was a proud United States Army Veteran who served his country during WWII. He was the last surviving member of his platoon. Benny was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness and generosity. Both Lawrence General Hospital and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation were benefactors of his great generosity. Benny loved reading, gardening and telling tales.
Benny was the loving husband of the late Muriel (Jellison) Maccarone with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Paul Maccarone and his wife Maryellen of Methuen. Benny was the beloved grandfather of Elizabeth Maccarone and Benjamin Maccarone. He was the dear brother of Albert Maccarone and his wife Camille, Florence DiBenedetto, Angela LeBel, the late Rev. Patrick Maccarone, Bella Consoli and her husband Mario, Anna Maccarone, Joseph Maccarone and his wife Madelyn and the late Anthony Maccarone. Benny is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends and guests are invited to call on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Parish of South Lawrence. Interment to follow at Bellevue Cemetery of Lawrence.
