Smith, Jr., Lawrence Smith, Priscilla Ford, Cynthia Green, Donna Hodson and the late Ruth Thibeault, brother of the late Ruth Doucette and Robert Litchfield and great grandfather of the late Austin J. Litchfield.
Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 10 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-6pm. Donations in Leon’s name may be made to the Alzhiemer’s Association, 36 Cameron Avenue, Cambridge, MA or the charity of one’s choice.

Leon S. Litchfield, Sr., 85 years, died Wednesday at his home in South Chatham after a period of failing health. Born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Jesse B. and Elizabeth (Frazier) Litchfield, he was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1938. He had been employed by the former Grain Mill in Bridgewater, Brockton Enterprise where he was a police reporter and sports writer and retired from Knapp Shoe as a Shipper/Receiver. He was also an announcer for the American Wrestling Matches in Brockton. In the early 1980’s he retired to South Chatham where he was affectionately known as the “Honorary Mayor of South Chatham” and the “Governor of Morton Road”. He enjoyed people, walking and animals. He was also an avid Patriots and Red Sox Fan.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Leola (Foster) Litchfield and the late Marjorie M. (Bump) Litchfield, his children L. Stanley Litchfield Jr. of East Bridgewater, Joanne Steele Sheridan, MI, Donna Leadbetter Whitman, Karen Brown of Elizabeth City, NC, his stepchildren Lowell Smith of West Bridgewater, Irving C. Smith, Jr. of Brighton, Lawrence Smith of North Carolina, Priscilla Ford of Chatham, Cynthia Green of North Brookfield, Donna Hodson of Taunton, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the husband of the late Marjorie M. (Bump) Litchfield, great grandfather of the late Austin J. Litchfield, stepfather of the late Ruth Thibeault, and brother of the late Ruth Doucette and Robert Litchfield.
