Obituary

HOLDEN___Alphonse J. Baskis, 84, of Brentwood Dr., died Tuesday April 19 in his home. His wife of 50 years, Lucille A. (Zdrodowski) Baskis died in 1992.
He leaves a son, John R. Baskis of Leominster; a daughter, Marianne A. Baskis of Holden; and two grandchildren, Kristi and Craig. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Anthony and Agota (Balickas) Baskis and has lived in Holden since 1966. He was a summer resident of Dennisport.
Mr. Baskis was an assistant production manager many years for Goddard Valve Co. and retired in 1994. From 1945 to 1976 he was a machinist for Crompton & Knowles Co. He was also a licensed real estate broker and many years ago was a self-employed painting contractor.
Alphonse was an Army veteran of World War II serving as a Sergeant with the 10th Armored Tank Division. He served under General Patton and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded The Purple Heart.
Mr. Baskis was a member of St. Casimir Church, Worcester and was graduated from Commerce High School. He also took advanced courses in drafting, plumbing and real estate.
The funeral will be held on Thursday April 21 with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St, Worcester. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, Worcester. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Asociation, 20 Speen St., Framingham, 01701.
