DUDLEY – Joseph J. Wedda, 83, of 19 Charlton Road, died Tuesday, April 19, at home. His wife of 41 years, Frances E. (Dapkiewicz) Wedda, died in 1997.
He leaves two daughters, Dr. Beverly F. Wedda of Hudson and Susan B. Wedda of Brighton; three sisters, Celia Wedda of Webster, Jennie Szugda of Southbridge, and Irene Jankowski of Dudley; nephews and nieces.
He was born in Webster, a son of Roman and Agnes (Twardzik) Wedda, and lived in Webster and Dudley for most of his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School and from the Worcester Trade School.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, including the battle at Iwo Jima.
Mr. Wedda was a tool and die maker at Bermer Tool and Die Company in Southbridge for many years before he retired in 1987.
He was a member of Saint Andrew Bobola Parish, a daily communicant, an adorer at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and a member of the Universal Living Rosary. He enjoyed polka festivals.
The funeral, with military honors, will be held Friday, April 22, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. A calling hour will be held from 9:00 to 10:15 Friday morning at the funeral home.
