J. Frank Conwell Jr., 82, of 130 Bean Road died April 17, 2005 in Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia after a lengthy illness. He was born in New York City on February 25, 1923, the son of J. Frank and Catherine (Cox) Conwell.
Raised in Lincolndale, NY, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for one year prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He served with a communications unit in the South Pacific theatre of World War II. During his period of service, he met Iris M. Tompkins while stationed in Tampa FL. Following the war they wed on April 6, 1946.
Mr. Conwell completed his education at the University of Florida and taught in the Tampa school system for ten years. He returned to his roots in the northeast and resided in New Salem NY while teaching junior high students in the Ridgefield and Danbury CT school systems for more than twenty years.
After his retirement in 1981 he moved to Lake Winnisquam and later to Moultonborough. He enjoyed building and operating radio-controlled model airplanes.
Family members include his wife of 59 years, Iris (Tompkins) Conwell of Moultonborough; a daughter Vicki Cornwell and her husband Don of Moultonborough; two sons, Scott Conwell and his wife Ruth of Canaan, NH and Randall Conwell and his wife Lori of New Fairfield, CT; four grandchildren, Meghan Conwell, Jason Conwell, Tara Cornwell and Jack Cornwell; a brother, Albert Conwell of Vermont; several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in Amawalk Cemetery, Yorktown Heights, NY at a future date.
