BRIDGEWATER - Edward R. Chiocca, 90, of Bridgewater died Tuesday at Brockton Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Gertrude (Erickson) Chiocca.
Born in Bridgewater on June 4, 1914, he was the son of the late Valentino and Elizabeth (Fregosi) Chiocca.
Mr. Chiocca was raised and educated in Bridgewater.
He was a shoe worker and had worked for Plymouth Shoe in Middleboro for 20 years and FootJoy in Brockton for 12 years.
Mr. Chiocca was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and European Theater.
He was a member of the 49ers and enjoyed sports, especially hockey and swimming.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Ernest Chiocca of Bridgewater; two sisters, Primile Chiocca and Della Roque, both of Bridgewater; 13 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces, great-nephews and great great-nieces and nephews. He was also brother to the late Mary Sherry, Inez Rondelli, Angelina Jardullo and Eugene and Mario Chiocca.
His funeral will be from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rt. 18), Bridgewater, Saturday at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington.
