Obituary

Worcester- John M. Swedis, 87, formerly of 34 Miscoe Rd., died Tuesday, April 12, in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
His wife of fifty-three years, Sophie M. (Bulvidas) Swedis, died in 1995. He leaves two daughters, Janet Gutkoski Dufault of Worcester and Susan R. Swedis of Northborough; two sisters, Helen Horan of Worcester and Antoinette Zdonczyk of Auburn; five grandchildren, John T. Gutkoski and his wife Lisa of Charlestown, Joseph T. Gutkoski of Worcester, James T. Gutkoski of Newton, Carolyn L. Dufault of St. Louis, Missouri, Nathaniel A. Raymond of Somerville; a great granddaughter, Katharine J. Gutkoski of Charlestown; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Julius Swedis, and a sister, Anne Regonini. He was born in Whitinsville, son of Adam and Helen (Tallachka) Swedis, and lived in Worcester most of his life. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School.
Mr. Swedis was a pattern maker and model maker for more than thirty years at Morgan Construction Company, retiring in 1981.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving three years in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Alcor. He was a longtime member of St. Casimir Parish.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 16, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, in the funeral home.
