Therese Y. (Alves) Silva, 80, of New Bedford died July 6, 2015 at home surrounded by her family after an extended illness.
She was the wife of Bernard G. Silva with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel C. and Yvonne (Richard) Alves, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Silva was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
She was formerly employed as a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Home for 30 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Silva had a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to her family.
She was a graduate of St. Anthony High School.
Survivors include her devoted husband; a daughter, Marie T. Guy and her husband Michael of Wentworth, NH; 4 sons, David B. Silva of Boston and Lakeville, Robert B. Silva of Port Charlotte, FL, James B. Silva and Paul B. Silva, both of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Gilbert Alves of Acushnet and Bro. Paul Alves, ss.cc of Brockton; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Victor Alves, Cecile Couture, Gerard Alves and Richard Alves.
Visiting hours Thursday, July 9th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her Funeral services will commence on Friday, July 10th at 9 AM from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
