Obituary

George Cauley McSwain, 72, of Ashburn, Georgia, formerly of Cumming, Georgia, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at his residence in Ashburn.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Luke Niday officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. McSwain was born November 22, 1942, in Turner County, Georgia, to the late Jessie Clifford and Mary Maudell “Sugar Pie” Wilson McSwain. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a graduate of the Language School in Monterey, California, and served as a Russian interpreter and translator for the National Security Agency. In 1981 he moved from Fitzgerald to Cumming. Mr. McSwain was an employee of Royce Crane Company in Roswell, Georgia, as a monorail systems installer and computer IT manager. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Polly Pruitt McSwain of Cumming; two sons: Josh & Diana McSwain of Tallahassee, Florida and Christopher McSwain of Ashburn; a daughter: Melanie McSwain of Ashburn; four step-children: Jeff & Peggy Buice of Cumming, Mike & Betty Buice of Dawsonville, Paula B. & Bill Goddard of Hickory Flat and Stacey B. & Brian York of Cumming; 11 grandchildren; a sister: Patsy McSwain of Fitzgerald and a brother: Wayne McSwain of Kennedale, Texas, and most especially, his beloved cat Lucy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Russell Delano McSwain.
