Obituary

Betty “Nana” Barrios left this life on July 5, 2015, after a lengthy illness battling cancer. She left peacefully in her home with her loving family at her side. Nana leaves behind her two sons Rick and Benny both of Ventura. She will deeply be missed by her two boys and 8 grandchildren, Dayna, Brandi, Breanne, Ricky lll, Shelby, Jack, Roma and Viola.
Betty Sue was born in Dallas County Missouri on January 20, 1937. She was raised on a grade A dairy farm by her parents Roma and Eula Thurman. Betty cherished her youth years on the farm where she built her strong work ethic that was truly second to none. At the age of 15, the Thurman’s sold the farm and moved to Ventura California. Betty, her Brother Jim and Sister Nancy attended school and graduated from Ventura High School.
At the Age of 18, Betty met her lifelong partner Richard “Dickie” Barrios also from Ventura. They were married by Reverend Gressett and spent 52 wonderful years with each other. Those that knew Betty and Dickie remember the fun times they had together and the many laughs they shared with everyone. From the Barrios BBQ’s at Foster Park, movies at the drive-in, to watching the two boys play ball, Betty was full of life and always there for her family. Many times the boys were told by their friends that “Mrs. B” is the best Mom a kid could ever have.
Betty graduated from Psych. Tech. School and worked for over 30 years at the Camarillo State Hospital. Fostering friendships with so many people at Cam State, she loved her work and made countless friends over her entire career. (“Thank you Cam State employees for being so nice to our mother and giving her so much joy while working there”).
In her golden years, Betty was blessed to have a special bond with each of her grandchildren. She taught them to have strong morals and values and left them with everlasting memories.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dickie”, Father Roma, Mother Eula, Brother Jim and Sister Nancy.
“We love you forever Nana.”
