Obituary

New Bedford – Ronald Dean, 87, of New Bedford died April 11, 2005 at The Oaks after a long illness. He was the husband of Irene (Richards) Dean.

Mr. Dean was born in New Bedford, son of the late James W. and Hannah (Milligan) Dean, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Lunds Corner where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and was employed by the City of New Bedford as a firefighter for 25 years until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of the American Legion Post 166, Fairhaven; the Massachusetts Permanent Fireman’s Association; Star in the East Lodge A.F. & A.M., New Bedford; and the Royal Travelers, New Bedford.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter: Marjorie I. McAdams and her husband Kevin of Boxboro, MA; a son: Jack W. Dean and his wife Sharon of Mattapoisett; a son-in-law: James Hickey of Southboro, MA; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; and several nieces & nephews.

He was father of the late Janice Hickey and brother of the late James L. Dean.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend:

Calling hours Thursday, April 14, 2005, 5-8 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. conducted by the Star in the East Lodge A.F. & A.M.

Funeral service Friday, April 15, 2005 at 11:00 A.M.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, Lunds Corner, 2195 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, MA 02745 or The Oaks Resident’s Fund, 4525 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, MA 02745.

Interment in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
