Rita E. "Betty" Charron, 85, of Spencer Road in Greenville, died July 3rd, 2015 at home after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph "Pete" Charron. High school sweethearts, they would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in August 2015.
Born in Providence, Rita was a daughter of the late Jean DeBaptiste and Helen (Dion) Pelletier, step daughter to Ernest Fugere, Sr. She lived in Greenville for 45 years, previously residing in Providence.
Rita attended Mount Pleasant High School. She worked in Social and Family Services for the State of RI, was a school bus driver for the Town of Smithfield and a homemaker. She was a Girl Scout Leader and, along with her husband, was a coach for the Smithfield Girls' Softball since its inception. She was a member of the “Early Risers” bowling league at Town Hall Lanes (formerly at Hearthside Bowling Lanes) for 50+ years and continued to bowl until her recent illness. Since its installation, Rita and her husband faithfully attended Eucharistic Adoration on Mondays at St. Philip’s Church for 18 years. Rita loved to crochet, paint, and craft, and enjoyed making homemade raspberry jam from the raspberries in her yard.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Julie Coccia (the late Robert) of North Providence, Lynn Marquis of Attleboro, MA, Christine Bonvouloir (Mark) of Greenville, and Paul Charron (Jodi) of Glocester, her grandchildren: Rebecca Coccia, Jessica Salisbury, Nicole and Todd Bonvouloir, Danielle, Michelle and Gizelle Charron, and Bethany Leyshon, and great-grandchildren: Kaydia and Robert Leyshon. She was the sister of Ernest Fugere, Jr.
Her Funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
