Obituary

Jerry Elbert Mayo, 61, of Chula (Irwin County) passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Landon Alberson officiating. Mr. Mayo will be laid to rest at a later date. The family will receive friends Monday, June 29, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen- Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mike Barrett, Wayne Brannen, Billy Brannen, Ferron O’Neal, Robert Rios, Joel Bruce and Mike Dorden will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Mayo was born October 15, 1953 in Elizabethton (Carter County), Tennessee, the son of Elijah Abraham Mayo and Bertha Pauline Penley Mayo, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was a retired master tile setter. He loved his wife, kids, music, fishing, making people laugh and working. He had also served as a crew chief in the United States Army.

Mr. Mayo is survived by his wife, Shanda Hale Mayo of Chula; one son and daughter-in-law, Logan Abraham and Sierra Mayo of Kingsport, Tennessee; two daughters, Summer Elizabeth O'Neal of Kingsport, Tennessee and Rebecca Alexandria O'Neal of Bristol, Tennessee; one brother, David Mayo of Gate City, Virginia; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Johnny Campbell of Kingsport, Tennessee, Naomi and Walt Winegar of Gray, Tennessee and Cathy and Gary Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two grandsons, Joshua Hensley, Jr. and Jaxson Alexander O'Neal; and a special friend, Genevieve Howard of Chula.
