ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Clarence P. Beard, age 99 years, of Port St. Lucie, Florida and formerly of Dartmouth, passed away at St. Lucie Hospice House in Fort Pierce. Florida after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Florida (Charette) Beard and father of Sheila Delano and Arlene Gouveia and her husband Kenneth of Dartmouth, and brother of Mildred Coyne of New Bedford.
Clarence was also the grandfather of Joel Jr. and Thomas Delano, Kenneth and his wife Jocelyn and Kevin Gouveia all of Dartmouth. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Son of the late Albert and Sara (Hibbert) Beard he was also the brother of the late Ethel Bridge, Ernest Beard, Gladys Poirier, Francis Beard, Wilfred Beard and Victor Beard.
A longtime companion of the late Ethel Johnson of Port St. Lucie, he graduated from New Bedford High School, worked at Continental Screw Co., taught at Diman Voke in Fall River, and retired at age 55 from New Bedford Vocational School. Clarence was a Precision Tool and Die Maker, which was also his hobby along with watching his grandsons play sports, working in his little shop and traveling.
His funeral will take place on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford with friends being received within the hour prior to his service. Burial will be in Acushnet Cemetery.
