Ruth M. Grady, 82, of Londonderry, NH died Saturday evening April 9, 2005 at her home. She courageously fought lung cancer for ten months with the help of her immediate family and the Hospice Program. She was an inspiration for all those who were around her during this period of time. Mrs. Grady was born in Chelsea, MA on July 12, 1922 a daughter of the late John and Priscilla (Gidney) Stapleton. She had resided in Londonderry since 1984, formerly living in the Back Bay of Boston, MA for most of her life. Mrs. Grady had an extensive forty year employment history in working in non traditional jobs within the mutual fund business, retiring in 2002 from Fleet Bank. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson, and was a lifelong Church volunteer. She was a lifelong activist in the scouting movement, and was a lifelong Democrat who was active in NH Presidential races. She was a member of the Londonderry Senior Citizens. She was an avid traveler who thoroughly enjoyed beach activities.
She is survived by two sons, Winston J. Grady, Jr. and his wife Denise of Londonderry, Garry M. Grady of Navato, CA, four grandchildren, Jennifer K. Grady of Manhattan, NY, Amanda Grady of Londonderry, Jessica Grady of Maynard, MA, Timothy Grady of Winter Park, CO, one great granddaughter, Angelique Grady of Maynard, MA, one brother, Donald Stapleton of Stoughton, MA, two sisters, Mary Darragh of Canton, MA, Eleanor Jacke of Lakewood, CO, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Winston J. Grady, Sr. in 1999.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 14th at 10:00am in St. John the Evangelist Church, Library St., Hudson. The burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Hudson. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry.
