Sister Madeleine Dion (formerly Sister M. Alphonsa), 83, a Sister of Mercy for 64 years, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Warde Health Center, Windham, N.H.
A native of Franklin, N.H., she was the daughter of Hector and Eva (Geroux) Dion.
Sister Madeleine received her B.S. degree in education from Mt. St. Mary College, Hooksett, N.H. For nearly 40 years she taught in Catholic elementary schools throughout New Hampshire. She was a teacher at St. Mary School in Claremont; St. Raphael in Manchester; St. Mary in Dover; St. Patrick in Berlin, St. John in Concord; St. John and Holy Trinity schools in Laconia; St. Mary in Franklin; and Mt. St. Mary Day School in Manchester. For seven years she served as secretary at Dover Catholic School. After she retired to Warde Health Center, she helped with activities at Searles Castle at Windham as long as her health allowed.
Family members include two brothers, Lawrence (“Joe”) and James Dion, both of Franklin, N.H., and a sister, Doris Carrigan of West Moreland, N.H.
Friends may call at the Sisters of Mercy Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, N.H. from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13. A prayer service will be held in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Sisters of Mercy in Windham at 6 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel on Thursday, April 14. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH
