Obituary

Worcester - George R. "Gige" Goyette, 74, of 170A Lovell Street died Thursday Nov. 8 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center - University Campus after a short illness.

He leaves his wife Sally J. (Thoreen) Goyette of Worcester; one son Thomas E. Goyette of Miami Shore, FL; one daughter Sally A. Goyette of Worcester; one brother David G. Goyette of Worcester; two sisters Barbara Mungovan of Key Largo, FL and Margaret Cronkite of Worcester; 2 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by one son George E. Goyette of Califronia who died in 1998. Mr. Goyette was born in Worcester son of George C. and Margaret E. (Scully) Goyette and graduated from Commerce High School.

Mr. Goyette served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 38 years in the Department of Public Works retiring in 1989. He also worked part time as a bartender for the Worcester Lodge of Elks.

Mr. Goyette was a member of St. Peters Church and the Main South American Legion Post. He also belonged to the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243 where he received the Elk of the Year Award in June 1997.

The funeral will be held on Monday Nov. 12 at 10 AM in St. Peters Church 931 Main St.. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours are from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday Nov. 11 in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St.. The Elks will perform a ritual at 2:30 PM during calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Worcester Lodge of Elks 233 Mill St. Worcester, MA 01602 or the American Cancer Society.
