Bridgewater, VA – Lydia A. Mendonza, 77 died Tuesday June 23 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald J. Mendonza.
Born in Whitman she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Annette (Dubrelle) Beland.
Raised in Whitman, Lydia had remained a longtime resident until her move to West Bridgewater in 1984. She had worked at Fernandes Supermarket and the former Whitman Savings Bank, where she had served as Head Teller and later retiring from Foxboro Company. In 2000 Lydia had moved to Virginia to be with her daughter and family.
She is survived by her son Mark J. Mendonza and his wife, her daughter Denise (Mendonza) Calhoon and her husband John, and her brother Robert F. Beland and his wife Joanne. She is also survived by her three beloved granddaughters Jessica (Calhoon) Long and her husband Daniel, Colleen (Calhoon) George and her husband Guthrie and Heather Calhoon and her great grandsons, whom she adored, Micah and David Long as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Thomas H. and Henry P. Beland.
Her services will be held Saturday June 27 at 6:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date in the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 3:00-6:00 PM.
