Gustav C. Rueffert, 80, of 25 Joy Avenue, Winnisquam died April 4, 2005 in Lakes Region General Hospital. He was born in Gestermunde, Germany on June 9, 1924, the son of Carl Edwin and Edla (Kaeiser) Rueffert. He immigrated to the United States in 1928 and settled with his family in Arlington Virginia.
Following his graduation from Washington Lee High School of Arlington VA he enlisted in the Army and served in the Pacific theatre of World War II. Mr. Rueffert received two combat ribbons and participated in the Philippine liberation campaign.
He was employed in milk route sales for Sealtest Farms in the Fairfax Virginia area for twenty-five years. In 1967 he relocated to Winnisquam and has resided here since that time.
Gus was employed for a time with Folz Vending Company and later with Mooney Construction until his retirement.
Mr. Rueffert was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Laconia. He was a former member of the Laconia Elks Club and enjoyed Square Dancing and traveling with his wife in their recreational trailer.
Family members include his wife of 60 years, Barbara R. (McGinn) Rueffert of Winnisquam; a daughter, Barbara Chauncey of Waterford VA; three sons, Gustav P. Rueffert of Herndon VA, Kenneth B. Rueffert of Barnstead NH and Kevin W. Rueffert of Winnisquam; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A memorial reception was held in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM. A memorial ceremony was held in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Thursday at 11 AM.
