Lawrence J. Slattery,86, of 2 Deer Pond Dr., died Sunday, April 3 at Life Care Center of Auburn.
He was the husband of Mary F. (Watson) Slattery who died in 1998.
He leaves three sons James M. and his wife Beverly Slattery of Norton, twin sons Michael P. and his wife Susan Slattery of Falmouth and Mark J. and his wife Debra Slattery of N.Brookfield a daughter Deborah Brunnett of W.Harwich, a brother John Slattery of Worcester, his 100 year old aunt Margaret Deignan of Worcester, his sister in law Betty Russell of Leicester, 9 grand and 3 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother James Slattery.
Mr. Slattery was Chief of Police at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester before retiring in 1981 from that position. He previously was "clerk of the works" for their physical plant for many years. He then went on and was an independent engineering consultant for area towns as "clerk of the works" in various construction projects until 1998.
He was a member of the Cherry Valley Amercian Legion Post 443, the Leicester Knights of Columbus, and St. Pius the X Church. He once served on the Leicester Finance Committee and Recreation Committee. Along with his wife, he spent his summers for 39 years, camping in Dennisport. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed going to yardsales. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Coast Guard.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Lawrence and Mary (Deignan) Slattery.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 6 from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St.,Leicester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main St., Leicester. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 5 from 5 to 8p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
