Obituary

James A. Wallace, Jr., 80, died at Parkland Medical Center on April 1, 2005, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Wallace was born in Haverhill, Mass., on March 17, 1925, the son of James A. Wallace, Sr., and Wenona (Lunnie) Wallace-Howard. He lived in Haverhill MA, Vermont, and Goshen, NH before moving to Derry as a young boy, where he lived most of his life. He was educated in the Goshen and Derry School systems. Mr. Wallace served in the US Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Derry Sport and Beagle Club, a member of the Halcyon Club and the VFW and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Wallace owned and operated Jim’s Chevron for several years and Wallace Enterprises before retirement. He enjoyed flying his own plane, hunting, fishing, cooking and viewing his collection of John Wayne movies.

The family includes his wife of 56 years, Dotte (Poisson) Wallace of Derry, five daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Shelly) Chase of Waycross, GA, Mrs. Richard (Lisa) Mercier of Chester, NH, Mrs. Christopher (Penny) Krajenka of Weare, NH, Mrs. Chuck (Jamie) Straw of Somersworth, NH, and Mrs. Joseph (Melissa) Gordon of Sandown, NH, 10 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roger D. Wallace in 2001 and Russell L. Wallace in 2002.

Following cremation, friends may call on Wednesday, April 6th from 9 - 11:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home. The burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-9721.
