Each cloud is unique, tested by the winds, shaped and weathered by the Sun and Earth, as it moves across the sky. A cloud passes the horizon and disappears too soon. And so was the life of Glenn D. Shaw. Born in Morristown, NJ, on January 17, 1963, he joined a family of six .Completing all his schooling in Madison, NJ, Glenn graduated from high school in 1981. (He majored there in ice hockey!) He then attended Keene State College for one year, and returned to work in the family small equipment sales and repair business in NJ. He and his brother ran the business as partners for many years. Glenn volunteered locally as a Florham Park Volunteer Fireman for several years. He made lasting friends all along his path.
Glenn was part scientist, craftsman, engineer, perfectionist, and constant learner. He could make or repair most things. These skills all came in handy when he moved to Hollis, Maine in the early 2000s', where he bought land and proceeded to build his home and garage. His desire for pure form and simplicity is evident throughout his home. Living a simple life, he gardened and canned much of his food. Later, he set up his own business as an independent carpenter, repair and handyman; he was very proud of his business.
He is predeceased by his mother- Miriam C. (Carl) Shaw in 2010.
Glenn is survived by his father, William G. Shaw, of Boonton, NJ, his brother, William C. Shaw and wife, Mary, of Madison, NJ, sister Gayle E. Shaw and partner Sara Treat, of Windham, ME, sister Pamela J. Castelot and husband David of Plymouth, NH , sister Janice A. Cavanagh and husband Brian of New Providence, NJ., as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Glenn left us suddenly and unexpectedly after spending a wonderful day on his motorcycle traveling with friends. May he, with his kind and loving heart, find rolling hills to explore in his next journey, and know always that he was loved.
Following calling hours, friends and family are invited to join us at Glenn's house for a short memorial service and to share some food.
There will be a celebration of life service in New Jersey that will held at a later date. Please watch Glenn's Facebook page for the date and FMI.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to The Good Shepherd Food Bank in Maine or to a local animal shelter.
