FAIRHAVEN -- Hazel C. (Chace) Gibson, 88, of Fairhaven died Friday, March 25, 2005, at Alden Court. She was the widow of Herbert G. Gibson.
Born in East Freetown, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin N. and Dora F. (DeMoranville) Chace. She formerly lived on the Stones' Great Hill estate in Marion for 37 years.
She graduated from New Bedford High School and Kinyon-Campbell Business School; she was a bookkeeper.
She wrote stories about the East Freetown and Marion areas for The Standard-Times for 12 years.
She enjoyed camping, square dancing and traveling. She and her husband traveled to nearly every state by motorhome. They toured 35 countries and square danced twice in London.
Mrs. Gibson was a former member of the Royal Travelers Club, the Good Sam Camping Club, the International Friendship Club between Canada and the United States, the Battleship Camping Club and the Herring Runners Camping Club.
She was a former member of the East Freetown Grange and the Marion Grange. She took her seventh degree in Atlantic City.
She was the mother of the late Linda D. Gibson, and the sister of the late Victor B. Chace, Florence C. Crosby and Avis F. Delano.
Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chace Cemetery, Chace Road, East Freetown, Ma.
